silo for concrete batching plant

The application of steel silos in concrete mixing plants is mainly for the storage of cement, fly ash, and mineral powder, to assist in the automatic metering and feeding of the concrete production line, and to help with dust removal in the project, meeting environmental protection requirements. Throughout the production process, the powder storage and supply system is crucial, directly determining the stability and efficiency of concrete production.
As a global leading manufacturer of silo systems, AGICO combines rich industry experience and advanced manufacturing techniques to provide customers with one-stop concrete plant silo solutions for concrete mixing plants, helping customers reduce investment costs and improve production efficiency.
types of concrete plant silo
The steel silo is specifically designed for storing all dry powdery and granular materials. In a typical concrete production line, the storage of the following materials must be carried out using a steel silo.
The storage of powdered raw materials is an important part of a concrete mixing plant and is also a core area that requires steel silos. It is used for the large-scale and long-term storage of core powdered materials such as cement, fly ash, and slag micropowder. We can flexibly form “group silos” according to your production requirements to achieve safe isolation storage of multiple materials and different grades.
| Plant Scale | Daily Output (m³) | Cement Silo | Fly Ash Silo | Mineral Powder Silo | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small Concrete Batching Plant | 200 – 500 | 1~2 × 100–150 tons | 1 × 50–100 tons | 1 × 50 tons (optional) | Flexible configuration, suitable for small nearby projects. |
| Medium Concrete Batching Plant | 500 – 1500 | 2~3 × 200–300 tons | 1~2 × 100–150 tons | 1 × 100 tons | Most common setup, ensuring 2–3 days of production storage. |
| Large Concrete Mixing Plant | 1500 – 3000+ | 3~4 × 500+ tons | 2~3 × 200–300 tons | 1~2 × 200 tons | Designed for large projects or commercial concrete suppliers, with strong storage capacity. |
1. Store cement
Cement, as the core raw material of concrete, has extremely strict requirements for storage conditions. The AGICO steel silo adopts a fully enclosed and sealed design. The inner wall of the silo is smooth, and in combination with the gasification device, it effectively prevents moisture absorption, agglomeration, bridge formation, and material blockage, ensuring smooth discharge and stable quality.
Usually, each concrete batching plant is equipped with one or more large cement silos, which are the heart of the production line.
- Function: Stores the most crucial binding materials, with the largest quantity.
- Standard capacity: The most common single cement silo capacity is 100 tons, 150 tons, 200 tons, 300 tons, and 500 tons.
- Quantity: Usually equipped with 2 or more.

2. Store fly ash

In modern concrete formulations, fly ash is an indispensable admixture. It can enhance the workability and durability of concrete while reducing costs. Therefore, an independent fly ash silo is a standard configuration, with its structure and function identical to those of a cement silo.
The fly ash silo is an important storage device for admixtures, which can improve the performance of concrete. It is equipped with an independent metering device, has strong sealing properties, is explosion-proof and shock-proof, and prevents it from mixing with cement.
- Function: An important admixture, it improves the performance of concrete and reduces costs.
- Regular capacity: The single capacity is usually 100 tons, 150 tons, or 200 tons.
- Configuration principle: The amount of fly ash generally accounts for 20% to 30% of the cement usage.
3. Store Mineral Powder
Mineral admixtures such as slag micropowder are widely used in high-strength and high-performance concrete. If they are to be used, a dedicated mineral powder silo must be equipped.
The mineral powder storage bin is suitable for storing high-performance admixtures. Adding mineral powder to produce high-strength concrete, mineral powder is usually stored in a sealed manner, and the bin can maintain the fluidity of the mineral powder.
- Function: Used for the production of high-performance concrete. The dosage is adjusted according to the formula.
- Regular capacity: The single capacity is usually 50 tons, 100 tons, or 150 tons.
- Configuration principle: The dosage of fly ash is quite flexible. Generally, it is around 10% to 20% of the total amount of the binder materials. Many ordinary concrete formulas do not use fly ash, so it is an optional configuration.

4. Store additives

Some concrete admixtures exist in the form of dry powder (such as certain types of rapid setting agents and water reducing agent powders). Although liquid admixtures are more common, if dry powder admixtures are used in the formula, a small, highly moisture-proof steel silo must be configured for them.
- Function: Stores special dry powder additives, such as expansion agents and rapid setting agents.
- Regular capacity: Usually very small, typically ranging from 30 tons to 50 tons in size.
5. Storage of Temporary construction site
For construction sites such as roads, bridges, and water and electricity projects, temporary concrete batching plants need to be set up. These require quick installation and movable steel silos. AGICO can customize specific types of steel silos according to your construction situation.
The core features of the temporary steel silo:
- The modular and bolted connection design enables the installation to be completed within as little as 5 days.
- It can be lifted as a whole or disassembled into parts, making it suitable for being transported to the next construction site after the completion of the project.
- The complete set of conveying, dust removal and discharging devices are provided, avoiding the need for additional purchases later on.
- The structure is sturdy and can adapt to the wind, rain and temperature variations in the field construction environment.
- Equipped with a pulse dust collector, it complies with the environmental protection requirements for construction sites.

AGICO CONCRETE PLANT SILO:
- Spiral steel silo: Almost suitable for all sizes of concrete mixing plants, especially in situations with high requirements for sealing and moisture-proofing. It is the preferred standard solution for powder storage. Due to continuous lock seam forming, it has good integrity and better air tightness than assembled silos, making it very suitable for storing materials with high moisture-proofing requirements, such as cement and fly ash.
- Bolted silo: It is mainly used for small-capacity storage requirements, such as raw material reserve warehouses in small cement plants and comprehensive utilization bases of fly ash.
- Welded steel silo: Using the overall welding process, the storage capacity is relatively small, usually ranging from 30 to 100 tons.
Key supporting equipment
1. dust removing equipment
At the top of the AGICO concrete plant silo, a pulse bag dust collector can be installed. The dust is collected back into the silo through the reverse air blowing method, effectively preventing material loss and dust pollution.

Top-mounted pulse bag dust collector:
- Dust removal efficiency up to 99.9%. The dust concentration in the outlet gas of the dust collector is within the range of tens of mg/m³.
- The processing capacity range is wide, spanning from several cubic meters per minute to tens of thousands of cubic meters per minute.
- High filtration accuracy: filtration accuracy 0.3 μm, leakage rate <0.1%, ultra-clean emission.
- It uses glass fiber, P84, and other high-temperature-resistant filter materials, which can operate at temperatures above 200℃.

2. Automatic measurement and feeding
AGICO has set up a precise discharge measurement system to improve the efficiency of concrete production and ensure the stable and quantitative transportation of concrete.
The bottom of the steel silo is equipped with a ramming device, an agitator device, and a screw conveyor. It can transport the powder material stably, quantitatively, and continuously to the metering hopper, and then the control system precisely mixes it according to the formula.
AGICO concrete plant silo advantages:
- Ensure the consistency of the mix ratio for each batch of concrete.
- Avoid errors in manual ingredient addition.
- Support rapid switching of different powder materials for feeding.

- The powder material is monitored for its storage volume by the level gauge.
- Start the screw conveyor.
- The powder material enters the metering hopper.
- Automatically weigh and feed into the blender.
