This article primarily introduces six different types of cost-effective, highly sealed, and automatic storage silos: spiral steel silo, bolted silo, welded silo, flat bottom silo, hopper bottom silo, and gas film silo. If you are planning to invest in projects related to cement, mining, agriculture, or similar industries, this article can help you select the most suitable silo type for your project.

1. Different types of silos
Based on the varying properties of materials such as cement, fly ash, clinker, and lime, as well as the different environments of client projects, AGICO GROUP has designed six primary types of silos primarily used in the industrial sector.
| Silo Type | Structure | Capacity Range | Sealing Performance | Installation | Best Application | AGICO Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spiral Silo | Continuous spiral plate forming process | 100 – 100,000+ tons | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | On-site rapid forming | Concrete, mineral powder, bulk bulk materials | Preferred for large-scale projects, high cost-effectiveness |
| Welded Silo | Overall welded structure | 50 – 5,000 tons | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Factory manufacturing, on-site installation | Powdered materials (such as cement, petroleum coke) | High sealing, high safety requirements projects |
| Bolted Silo | Screw assembly structure | 20 – 10,000 tons | ⭐⭐⭐ | Modular installation | Export projects, transportation-restricted areas | Transportation convenient, suitable for overseas projects |
| Hopper Bottom Silo | Conical bottom structure | 20 – 2,000 tons | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Installation simple | Non-flowable materials | Preferred for anti-blocking materials |
| Flat Bottom Silo | Flat bottom structure | 500 – 100,000+ tons | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Requires foundation construction | High capacity long-term storage | Minimum cost/ton |
| Air Film Silo | Membrane gas uniformization structure | 500 – 50,000 tons | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Complex system | Concrete uniform storage | High-end cement projects |
(1) spiral steel silo
The spiral steel silo is formed using a continuous rolling process, featuring no bolt holes in the wall and excellent sealing performance. This type of steel silo is also known as a lipp silo and is highly suitable for storing powdered materials such as cement, fly ash, and mineral powder.
Spiral steel silo main features are: 100% sealing performance, stable structure, resistance to strong winds, earthquake resistance, and a service life of up to 35 years.

(2) bolted silo
The bolted silo, also known as the bolted cement silo, employs high-strength galvanized steel plates connected by bolts. With its modular design, it is highly convenient for transportation. It is suitable for storing materials such as grain, cement, and clinker.
Key features of bolted silos: Modular installation, pre-fabricated blocks, short installation time, and highly convenient transportation, making them ideal for temporary and short-cycle projects, significantly reducing transportation and installation time.

(3) welded steel silo
The welded silo adopts an integral welded structure, featuring robust overall strength, making it highly suitable for storing materials such as ores and clinker.
Main features of welded silos: Low maintenance cost and strong structural stability.

(4) hopper bottom silo
The hopper bottom silo features a conical structure at the bottom, allowing material to flow and discharge from the base.
The main features of the hopper bottom silo are smooth discharge and reduced material blockage.

(5) flat bottom silo
Flat bottom silos offer large storage capacity and are ideal for storing large quantities of materials.

(6) gas film silo
The gas film silo is supported by air pressure and is particularly suitable for storing materials with large volume and low unit weight, such as cement, limestone, mineral powder, industrial salt, and fly ash, which require protection from rain, moisture, and dust.

2. cement storage solution
Storing cement requires sealing and dust-proof measures, along with high demands on the conveying system. AGICO GROUP has developed comprehensive solutions based on the characteristics of materials such as cement, clinker, and fly ash, including a complete EPC solution. This solution encompasses storage systems (steel silos), conveying systems (screw conveyors, pneumatic conveying systems, belt conveyors), dust removal systems, and automatic control systems, achieving truly unmanned, continuous, and high-quality production.
3. silo solutions in mining industry
Mining materials are prone to clogging and exhibit high wear resistance, so AGICO GROUP has developed steel silo solutions tailored to the characteristics of mining materials. These solutions primarily recommend flat bottom silos and welded steel silos. The conveying system mainly includes heavy-duty belt conveyors, plate chain conveyors, and vibrating feeders, along with automated control and material flow monitoring systems. AGICO GROUP’s mining solutions effectively reduce downtime and enhance production efficiency through high-strength structural design, optimized anti-clogging systems, and customized discharge plans.
4. silo solutions in agricultural industry
Agricultural storage requires attention to moisture-proofing and ventilation. AGICO GROUP designs steel silos with anti-mold features and incorporates an intelligent monitoring system to automatically control the ventilation system, ensuring grain quality.
